Award-winning Poet to Perform Siday at SSU

Catbalogan City- In line with the National Arts Month celebration, the Samar State University Museum and Archives will be initiating KABILIN 2020, carrying the theme “Katbari hin Arte, Kultura ngan Gugma.”

A program of cultural performances is set on February 26, 2020 at the SSU Gymnasiun façade which will be attended by hundreds of students from the different colleges. One of the event’s highlights is a Siday Performance of Mr. Nemesio Sayson Baldesco, Sr.

Mr. Baldesco is a Poet Laureate of Calbayog and a 2015 Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas Awardee, given by the Manila Critics Circle to illustrious people who have made significant contributions in the development of Philippine Literature.

Mano Totoy, as he is fondly called, is a pedicab driver in Calbayog City and a farmer best known to his traditional form of Waray Poetry called Siday. Aside from Siday, he is also known to perform Luwa and Ismayling. His literary creativity is published on numerous publications and he authors the book KAWIT: Himusan san Siday, Ismayling, Luwa, Puplonganon, ug Titiguon.
