SSU’s 15th Charter Day highlights Filipino Culture

Catbalogan City – Samar State University (SSU) celebrates its 15th Charter Day with the theme: “Fostering Filipino Culture Geared Towards Globally Competitive SS.” which was held at the SSU quadrangle, November 12.

According to Professor Joyce Dorado-Alegre, Chair Division of Humanities/Director, Leyte Samar Heritage Center, UP Visayas, in her inspirational message, SSU’s theme for this year emphasized the importance of Philippine culture.

“Gintagan niyo hin importansiya hin hinungdan hit Philippine culture (You gave emphasis on the root of Philippine culture),” she stated.

She also stressed the definition of a Filipino.

“We are defined by our citizenship, by our racial genetics, by our territory and our history, that means Filipino should claim its homeland for they have succeeded in kicking out the Spaniard, American and Japanese colonizers,” said Alegre.

Meanwhile, the event commenced with pride and honor spearheaded by the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), host college, led by Dr. Florabelle B. Patosa followed by the College of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (COFMAS), SSU Paranas Campus, College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CONHS), College of Industrial Technology (CIT), College of Engineering (COENG), SSU – Basey Campus, College of Graduate Studies (CGS), the Administration, and the different student organizations of SSU.
