Catbalogan City – “My dear athletes, as you compete in your respective events, may you always endeavor in witnessing the core values of leadership, excellence, discipline, and service,” stressed Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, the University President, during the opening program of the 2017 SSU Palaro held at the SSU Quadrangle, July 31, 2017.
With the theme “Cultural Arts and Sports: Moving towards Flairs and Unity,” Dr. Cardoso emphasized the need to inculcate the essence of sports in learning from mistakes.
“Indeed, sport events teach us to embrace and learn from our mistakes, to learn and improve. These athletes themselves epitomize success, and you can never say that they were never defeated. They have been defeated but they try and learn from their mistakes,” she said in her inspirational message.
Aside from the values-centered opening, this year’s Palaro had each unit (college/campus) represented by its moniker mascot defined by a wild animal of the unit’s choice.
