ISO reveals audit findings; SSU pledges to commit

ISO auditor Mr. Melvin Grueso pronounced today January 5 (16) four findings on Management of Tertiary Education System after two days of Stage 1 external audit in Samar State University (SSU) Main and Mercedes Campuses.

The findings centered on the full implementation of the management review, satisfying the requirement of the standard on establish quality policy, establishing implementation of full internal quality and establishing procedures of mandatory requirements.

“I will be requiring the organization (SSU) to submit detailed proposed actions and once submitted, I’ll be reviewing them and if malinaw (clear) that is the time I will recommend you for Stage 2,” Grueso explained.

In response to the “honest but eye-opening suggestions”, the university president Dr. Marilyn Cardoso with the vice presidents, college deans, campus directors, focal persons and teachers pledged to give more than 100% yes to all the recommendations and points for improvement of the Stage 1 ISO Audit.

“With the blessing of the Divine Providence, we commit ourselves to endeavor and implement the recommendations of the ISO Stage I Audit,’ she said and added to continuously provide quality higher education in the country, thereby fulfilling SSU’s vision of transforming people’s lives, especially of the Samarnons.

As the first phase to commitment, Cardoso requested the attendance of all key officials to attend an after-lunch meeting for plan of actions formulation due for submission to AJA Registrars, the certifying body of the organization. “The best measure of success of any undertaking then comes from each one of us – our personal commitment and values,” she said.

It could be remembered that later part of the third quarter in 2015, SSU applied for ISO 9001 in a contract signing with AJA Registrars and gave an approval for Stage 1 Audit yesterday and today, SSU’s first ever step to challenge herself for standardization of the system since her establishment in 1912 as a laboratory shop of the Samar Provincial High School.

After 105 years in delivering quality education, SSU now anchors to the vision of becoming a transformative University committed to technology, innovation and service excellence.
