Samar State University received with cheers and applause the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) assessors as they submitted five (5) programs for evaluation on October 3, Monday at the Audio-visual Center of the university.
The ceremony formally commenced at nine in the morning as 16 accreditors around Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, headed by the overall coordinator of the AACCUP Team, Dr. Brigida A. Roscom from Mindanao State University, arrived from San Francisco Hotel where they were checked in by SSU. The event was attended by Catbalogan City mayor, Hon. Stephanie Uy-Tan and Board Member Fe T. Arcales representing Governor Sharrie Ann Tan-Delos Santos, who both delivered their support speeches for the university.
The activity was also participated by the SSU alumni, students, parents, and faculty and staff specially those who were from the colleges of Education, Engineering, Nursing, Industrial Technology, and Graduate Studies who submitted programs for accreditation. The CoEd, CoEng’g, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and CIT submitted their Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd), Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCpE), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and Bachelor of Technology (BT) programs for Level II, respectively; while the College of Graduate Studies presented their Doctor of Management curriculum for Preliminary Survey.
Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, the University President, said in her welcome address that accreditation is the university’s way of life. It can be recalled that SSU presented 10 programs for evaluation just last year. With this, she anchored her message from Aristotle’s aphorism: “Excellence is a habit.” She further stated that “The hallmark of the accreditation process is the external review. Quality or excellence do not happen by accident or by chance.” Dr. Cardoso stressed out that it is through accreditation where everyone in the program can realize their strengths and weaknesses and improve themselves upon knowing its result.
The ceremony ended at early noontime as Dr. Felisa E. Gomba, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, gave her closing remarks encouraging everyone to be confident and wishing them ‘good luck’. The AACCUP Team will be with the local accreditation task force for three days.
