The university hosted the Samar Island Orientation and Writeshop conducted by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for grant proposals on September 14, 2016. Provincial and local government units, as well as students and faculty members of the university, attended the said activity. Currently, SSU through Jose Labro together with experts Lucien Letaba and Charo Nabong Cabardo has an on-going projects with NCCA entitled Layag Samar: Sarakyan Pagparibhong (Towards Sustained Cultural Development of Samar). The project aims to develop and implement various activities towards a sustained cultural development for Samar Island which shall instill pride in cultural heritage of the island amongst its people.
