Samar State University won 6 awards during the 3rd Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE), held at the Robinsons Mall and DOST Conference Hall last November 25-27, 2013. For the third time in a row, SSU students won all three places in the Sibol-College category. Two of the four submitted in the Creative Research category won second and third place while one of the three Utility Model entry of SSU won third place. SInce the RICE has started, SSU has significantly won the most number of places in the categories it participates.
RICE is conducted every other year, where winners in the regional contest competes in the National Invention Contest and Exhibits conducted in the suceeding year, These events are spearheded by the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office VIII (DOST8) in partnership with Technology Application and Promotions Institute (TAPI-DOST). In region 8, the competition is also co-sponsored by the the Eastern Visayas Consortium for Industry and Energy Research and Development (EVCIERD) The holding of NICE is scheduled every other July of the year coinciding the celebration of the National Science and Technology Week for 2016. Student Creative Research for High School Category (Sibol Award)
There were 59 entries this year in the RICE-Region 8, more than 100% increase from the 2nd RICE conducted in 2013. SSU sent 15 entries.
