SUCs ink agreement for POVCON ‘19
Catbalogan City – This year’s National Conference on Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development was fronted through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony among the State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and private institutions in the region last March 28 at the SSU Convention Center.
Gracing the ceremony were the presidents and representatives of the partner institutions of Samar State University (SSU).
Signing the MOA were Sister Mikaela Manalang (President, St. Scholastica’s College), Dr. Jude Duarte (President, Leyte Normal University), Dr. Gerry De Cadiz (Dean, Eastern Visayas State University), Dr. Erwin Vincent Alcala (President, St. Paul’s School of Professional Studies), Dr. Prose Ivy Yepes (President, Southern Leyte State University), Dr. Edmundo Campoto (President, Eastern Samar State University), and Dr. Benjamin Pecayo (President, Northwest Samar State University).
Some other collaborating agencies are the Holy Infant College, University of Eastern Philippines, University of the Philippines in the Visayas (Tacloban College), and Biliran Province State University.
The first National Conference on Poverty and Sustainable Development was held on 2017 with the theme “Addressing Poverty Challenges through Multidisciplinary Approaches and Collaborations” and it was then followed with the first International Conference on Poverty Alleviation on 2018 tagged “Poverty: What do we know? What should we do?”
This year 2019, SSU continues the platform, influencing other academic institutions to do studies focusing on poverty issues.
The 3rd National POVCON will be held on September 25-27, 2019 in Tacloban City which will be hosted by the St. Paul’s School of Professional Studies.
