SSU to strengthen ties with Lingkod Kapamilya
SSU, Catbalogan – Samar State University took a pledge to assist the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc – Bantay Kalikasan (ALKFI- BK) in its current undertakings in Yolanda affected areas in Samar, Leyte and Iloilo, particularly in its contribution in empowering and transforming communities, providing sustainable livelihood and income, and in promoting protection and preservation of the environment.
A meeting was held last October 19 at the Samar State University (SSU) Publications Office by Dr. Sherrie Ann C. Labid, Director of the Research Center for Culture and Social Issues (RCCSI), SSU instructors Hector Cerniaz, April Quebada, and Nikko Floretes, together with the ALKFI Samar Site Specialists Julius Adre and Rean Jean Cuevas, and ALKFI Operations Head in Yolanda Areas Democrito Figueroa, Jr. to update the partnership projects of the agencies.
“ALKFI-BK will launch early next year two new projects, the Enhancement of Ulot River Torpedo Boat Ride Adventure and Development of SINP Ecotrail and Birding Site in Barangay Tenani, Municipality of Paranas, and the Development of Barangay Lulugayan as an Ecovillage and Ecotourism Site in Barangay Literon, Municipality of Calbiga,” said Figueroa.
Labid stated that SSU will be providing technical assistance in the design and enhancement of the rest stations and other existing structures in the two sites.
She also said that selected students from the College of Engineering (CoEng) and the College of Industrial Technology (CIT) will be participating in the development of the ecotrail and ecovillage.
It was agreed that other departments of SSU will also be invited to extend outreach programs and services in the two adopted sites.
“AKLFI Site Specialists will work closely with the SSU team,” Figueroa assured.
