SSU ends “fruitful” S.Y. 2017-18

Catbalogan City – Samar State University (SSU) closed the school year with many accomplishments as reported by office heads during the annual Year-end Meeting early today, March 28, at the SSU Gymnasium.

Aside from the accomplishments of the colleges and campuses, Dr. Felisa E. Gomba, Vice-president for Academic Affairs (VPAA), announced that laboratory facilities are being upgraded, and P20, 000 is allocated to each academic for training and seminar through the Faculty Development Program (FDP).

The VPAA also pronounced that there are eight new programs to be implemented, subject to approval in the second Board Meeting.

Moreover, she affirmed that S.Y. 2018-2019 will officially start on August 1, 2018.

Among the many accomplishments, Engr. Ma. Lourdes P. Amante, Dean of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), reported an increase of accredited student organizations in the university, from 20 to 23.

In the area of Planning, Research and Extension Services, Vice-president Dr. Ronald L. Orale presented that SSU ranked second in the 2018 Eastern Visayas University Ranking.

“We have taken a road less traveled. But with your cooperation and support, all of us have left a trail for Samar State University. Each one of you has a great contribution to our achievements, so congratulations everyone!” Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, the University President, stated in her message.

Dr. Cardoso enumerated the numerous milestones of the university in S.Y. 2017-18 including the very recent benchmarking of Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) at SSU on how the university managed to acquire the ISO 9001:2008 Certification without having consultants.

She also relayed to everyone the several incoming firsts that will be implemented by SSU such as the Nano-Technology, Electro-pneumatic Laboratory, Embedded System with Fab-lab, Industry Grade Printer and Scanner and Data Center with Fiber Optics.

“With all these, let us be grateful of what we have and let us enjoy the new things we are going to experience. But, let us not just sit on our laurels. I challenge you to stay focused on the vision of the university. If you want to be SUC Level V, burubligan naton ini nga tanan ” Dr. Cardoso said as she concluded her message.
