Psych Chair: Psychoeducation is vital
Catbalogan City – “Psychoeducation’s goal is to help people better understand (and become accustomed to living with) mental health conditions and it is considered to be an essential aspect of all therapy programs,” said Mrs. Mary Jane Cinco, Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BSPsych) Chairperson, during the Psychoeducation Seminar on Parenting Efficacy, Discipline, Child Rearing and Children’s Right in Brgy. Ibol, Catbalogan City last June 26.
According to Cinco, psychoeducation refers to the process of providing education and information to those seeking or receiving mental health services, such as people diagnosed with mental health conditions (or life-threatening/terminal illnesses) and their family members.
Attended by 20 parent-participants of the said barangay, the seminar on psychoeducation met its objectives which is to increase their quality of life and to improve their well-being through a survey which was given before and after the training measuring the knowledge gained by the participants.
Topics such as Marriage and Family, Parenting Efficacy, Discipline and Child Rearing, and Children’s Right were discussed on the training.
“Because knowledge is such a powerful element in the shaping process, educational programs that create knowledge are one of the most important activities in any community, thus, this seminar. That is why, we are looking forward for more activities that would reach the community,” Mrs. Cinco concluded.
